Falling Off the Bandwagon: Why Starting Again Is Okay and Empowering

Falling Off the Bandwagon: Why It’s Okay to Start Again

Life is a juggling act, and sometimes, the balls come crashing down. At Lisa’s Lacies, we know life isn’t always smooth sailing—or in Jess’s case, smooth running. Jess—our hardworking, farm-managing, six-days-a-week-working inspiration—knows this struggle all too well.

Let us tell you about Jess. She started her Couch to Half Marathon journey with all the enthusiasm in the world. Week 1? Smashed it. By Week 2, though, life had other plans.

Jess doesn’t just work full-time; she’s also the backbone of her farm. Her days start before dawn and stretch far beyond dusk. One week, she found herself knee-deep in responsibilities—literally and figuratively. There were fences to repair, hay deliveries to coordinate, six working dogs to exercise, and a brand-new litter of piglets to welcome into the world. Running fell to the bottom of her endless to-do list.

Does this sound familiar? Feeling overwhelmed, like there just aren’t enough hours in the day? Jess gets it. Life can throw so much at us that it feels impossible to keep up. And you know what? That’s okay.

Instead of letting guilt or frustration hold her back, Jess made a choice. She decided to let go of the pressure to be perfect and focus on the simple act of starting again. This morning, she laced up her running shoes and restarted her training at Week 2. And she absolutely smashed it.

But Jess didn’t stop there. She made changes to set herself up for success. Since running down a dark country dirt road isn’t the safest option, she jumped on Facebook Marketplace and found herself a treadmill. She also treated herself to a new pair of Hoka Clifton 9’s to replace her worn-out runners. The difference? Night and day. With these small but impactful changes, Jess has set herself up to keep moving forward—literally.

Jess’s story is a powerful reminder that life happens. Falling off the bandwagon doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It just means you’re human. The key is to get back on—even if it’s not perfect, even if it’s messy, even if you have to make adjustments along the way.

So, to anyone out there feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or stuck: you’re not alone. We all have those days (or weeks) where it feels like everything is too much. But there’s always tomorrow. Starting again isn’t just okay—it’s brave.

Whether your journey involves running, parenting, working, or just getting through the day, remember Jess’s story. Life may get in the way sometimes, but you’re stronger than you think. You’ve got this. And when you need a reminder, we’ll be here cheering you on every step of the way.
